Toyocerin^® has demonstrated several beneficial effects when administered to chicken and turkeys. Several factors stress these animals when growing, which is reflected in an imbalanced gut flora that opens the opportunity for potential opportunistic pathogens to attack them. In this regard, Toyocerin® administration improves the ratio Lactobacilli: Enterobacteria by a direct effect inhibiting the growth of gram negative bacteria (mainly E. coli and Salmonella). Also, Clostridia growth is inhibited. Moreover a higher gut surface and a higher number of goblet cells is observed. Response against vaccination (IB, IBV, Newcastle) is higher in chicken fed Toyocerin® showing its potential effect as a booster of the immune system.
