Toyocerin 109

Toyocerin 109 Premixture is a premixture of the zootechnical feed additive Toyocerin 1010, containing 1x109 viable spores of Bacillus toyoi per gram of product. The viable spores of Bacillus toyoi show a high stability to the standard pelleting conditions applied during the manufacturing of feeedingstuffs.

aquaculture

Toyocerin® has demonstrated beneficial effects when administered to fish, promoting growth and increasing the homogeneity of specimens. Different trials with eels, trout, prawns and yellow tail have provided these results. Although the mode of action is still not fully known, there is a positive effect on the organization of the intestinal mucosa, increasing the villous height and optimizing nutrient absorption that can be behind gut and performance optimization. Rubinum S.A. is investing a lot of effort in new research in this field so new results will be available soon.

cattle

The efficacy of Toyocerin® in cattle for fattening has been demonstrated by Rubinum S.A. in several trials. The use of Toyocerin® in feed results in an optimal gastrointestinal microbiota and intestinal immune response which leads to a better animal growth. A modification in short chain fatty acid production in rumen and gut and an increase on the small intestine surface are the most usual effects observed when the spores of B. toyoi are administered to ruminants. In the E.U., Toyocerin® is used as feed additive in cattle for fattening as granted by the Commission Regulation (EC) No 255/2005 of 15.02.2005 (OJ L45 16.2.2005 p.3) and the dossier for younger animals has been submitted to EFSA. Therefore, Toyocerin® will also be available relatively soon for calf milk replacers.

poultry

Toyocerin® has demonstrated several beneficial effects when administered to chicken and turkeys. Several factors stress these animals when growing, which is reflected in an imbalanced gut flora that opens the opportunity for potential opportunistic pathogens to attack them. In this regard, Toyocerin® administration improves the ratio Lactobacilli: Enterobacteria by a direct effect inhibiting the growth of gram negative bacteria (mainly E. coli and Salmonella). Also, Clostridia growth is inhibited. Moreover a higher gut surface and a higher number of goblet cells is observed. Response against vaccination (IB, IBV, Newcastle) is higher in chicken fed Toyocerin® showing its potential effect as a booster of the immune system.

rabbits

Toyocerin® is authorized within the EU for breeding does and also for rabbits for fattening. The main effects of this probiotic are related to the stabilization of the gut microflora by improving the intestinal health of the animals. In this regard, a clear effect on Clostridia is observed. In conjunction with the improvement in animal health, Toyocerin® improves performance parameters of rabbits and does. Some examples of these positive results are the increase of litter size and weight at the end of the lactation period or the reduction of the mortality incidence in the fattening period of the animals. Finally it should be pointed out that the use of Toyocerin® in the feed is authorized with the coccidiostats that can be used in rabbit feed.

swine

Toyocerin® is currently registered in the EU to be used in piglets, sows and growing and fattening pigs. The use of Toyocerin® in this category has demonstrated several effects in the improvement of gut health, the immune system and overall health and performance of animals. In this regard, several studies have demonstrated a clear reduction of some potential pathogenic bacteria such as E. coli and Salmonella and an increase in lactic acid bacteria. Moreover, an earlier development of the piglet immune system as well as better response of vaccines has been validated. In sows, the better gut health is reflected in higher performances, showing a higher number of piglets born and weaned, lower non productive days and body weight loss as well as a better quality in milk and contents of immunoglobulins in colostrum.
